Not Just a Sofa and Not Just a Bed
Most people do not live in mansions so catering for an unexpected overnight guest can be a bit of a problem. It either means a family member having to give up their own bed or, perhaps, a few cushions on the floor being utilised as a makeshift mattress. There is another way to solve this problem without compromising in any way – the sofa bed.
Sofa beds used to be very basic and cumbersome and awkward to use. Today’s designers and manufacturers have excelled in making the sofa bed a very desirable, and useful, item of furniture for every home.
Many suites of furniture now include a sofa bed as an option, making it ideal for homes where space is at a premium. The sofa bed will spend most of its time solely as a sofa but, at the flick of a switch, can be transformed instantly to provide the perfect bed for an overnight guest. Today, sofa beds are well-designed and incorporate a well-made comfortable mattress ensuring that a guest will get as good a night’s sleep as he would in a regular bed. It will take standard bedlinen so the homeowner won’t have the expense of purchasing something specifically for it, and the double will easily accommodate two people.
Where space is not a problem, a sofa bed can find a place in a spare bedroom, an office or study, or even the dining room. During the day it will provide welcome extra seating space and, when the need arises, it will become a bed for visitors. For children, a sofa bed in their room will provide plenty of opportunities for sleepovers with their friends.
Years ago, sofa beds could be quite difficult to convert from a sofa to a bed and back again but now, with ease of use paramount, they can be transformed easily.
The sofa bed of today can easily find a place in everyone’s home, and will earn its keep in no time.
